Assurance was given to the top retailers by Amitabh Kant, Secretary of department of industrial policy & promotion (DIPP) that the Government will look into their concerns based on priority.
In the meeting held at India Retail Forum (IRF) he was referring to the issues that were raised by the top retailers including Future, Walmart, Trent and Godrej Nature's Basket.
Lack of industry status to retail bank financing, concerns regarding availability of land, lack of electricity and others are the issues raised at IRF. Kant replied that these issues will be discussed to great lengths at an inter-ministerial meeting involving states.
Kant said that there should not be any discrimination between single brand, multi-brand and e-commerce emphasizing on the need of a single retail policy.
He said that the retail sector growth is crucial for India as it helps in creating jobs at local level and E-commerce can enhance the reach of even offline retailers given that the country has a huge number of mobile users.
