Spartoo, the French online seller of shoes, clothing and accessories, is expanding its offline activities. The retailer will open ten physical stores in France by December this year. Apparently the launch of its first physical store, five months ago, pleased them well.
It’s quite a surprising move: an online shoe and fashion retailer that decides to make a big move offline. Whereas many physical shoe stores have a hard time keeping their head above water, Spartoo just announced it will open 10 physical stores by the end of the year. All stores will open in France, after its first physical store also launched in France, in home city Grenoble.
First results of the physical Spartoo store in Grenoble are very promising, the company says. “They show us how some consumers still shop by visiting stores and take advantage of the complementarity between online retail and physical commerceâ€, says Boris Saragaglia, CEO of Spartoo.
Our strategy is based on a regional opening of stores in city centers or shopping centers. We now focus our efforts in Rhone-Alpes to gradually expand our presence in the Northeast and Southeast regions of the countryâ€, Saragaglia explains. Besides launching three stores in Burgundy, the shoe retailer will also open stores in Clermont-Ferrand, Bourg-en-Bresse (September) Albertville, Chambery (October) and Besancon (November). By 2017, Spartoo wants to have a network of about fifty shops.
