Update On :26 August 2015
DHL Parcel had announced plans to expand its service in Europe by opening its own parcel network in Austria by 2016. After the Benelux, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Austria is the latest market that will be entered by the European parcel division that was launched last year by Deutsche Post DHL Group.
Deutsche Post will enter the Austrian parcel market with a triple-digit million investment, it says in a press release. It will invest in infrastructure as well as in setting up parcel shops and Packstations. The company ensures other delivery options will follow. Priority will be to ensure that as many parcels as possible are delivered on the first attempt so that yellow notes for recipients can be avoided.
In Austria, many consumers shop online at German ecommerce stores, mostly because they have a wider range of products than the local ecommerce stores. When DHL has entered the Austrian parcel market, delivery times form Germany to Austria will reduce, which means that online purchases from Germany will arrive at their recipients only one day after being shipped.
As a side effect, DHL thinks Austria can also benefit from the expansion with the creation of thousands of new jobs in the country. The expansion to Austria will begin on September 1 by providing services in some parts of the country. By 2016, the service should be extended to the whole country. DHL has already set up its local headquarters in Vienna to run the operation form.
DHL is part of Deutsche Post DHL Group and encompasses the divisions DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, Freight and DHL Supply Chain.
