On Thursday, An E-commerce major Amazon India has inaugurated its India's largest fulfilment centre situated in Sonipat, Haryana, some 50 kms from the national capital New Delhi.
The new fulfilment centre of about 200,000 sq ft would help the e-tailer to fulfil orders from Delhi and surrounding areas of Haryana within 24 hours, said Akhil Saxena, vice president, customer fulfilment centres. The US e-commerce titan, that started it's India operation in June 2013 with one fulfilment centre in Bhiwadi in Maharashtra, today boasts of 22 such centres across 10 Indian states.
The e-tailer had earlier this month announced that it is expanding its infrastructure by adding six more fulfilment centres taking the total number to 27 to better equip itself for the upcoming festive season. Last month, Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos announced $3 billion additional investment in the company's Indian business, boosting the total investment into India since 2014 to $5 billion.
With the addition of these new centres Amazon will now have operational storage area of 2.5 million Sq.ft. It already has 10 such centres in Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and West Bengal.
