Update On :07 June 2016
The Chinese version of Amcal’s online store, launched on Monday 6 June, will enable Chinese customers to choose from its range of products and place orders that will be shipped from Australia.
It will offer health, beauty and wellbeing products from a range of different suppliers, as well as a selection of Sigma’s own Pharmacy Care-branded products.
While the company’s Australian retail brands also include Guardian, PharmaSave, Chemist King and Discount Drug Store, Sigma says there is no plan to roll out any others into the international e-commerce market as yet. “We do not currently have immediate plans to launch any other brand online into China,†a Sigma spokesperson told AJP, noting that the decision may be reviewed at some point. “We want to focus first on leveraging the strong history and heritage of the Amcal brand for that market.â€
However, Amcal may be offering its products to people in many other countries in the near future.“We believe China could be just the first of a targeted international expansion plan for Amcal and Sigma, leveraging our existing partnerships,’’ says Gary Dunne, Sigma’s Chief Operating Officer.
Sigma has partnered with Azoya, an e-commerce solutions provider based in China, to help with its expansion into the new market. Azoya will take charge of operational groundwork in China, and help provide marketing campaigns and customer service.
“Given the language and cultural barriers, we wouldn’t have been able to fulfill our Chinese expansion plans without a local partner,†says Mark Hooper, CEO of Sigma.“Azoya’s innovative ecommerce platform and expertise dispels our concerns over business expansion into a market we barely know,†he says. The company will also sell its products through Azoya’s proprietary cross-border online shopping platform Haituncun, which provides another channel to sell to Chinese consumers.
